Porches and Much More…

bespoke porches

A beautiful entrance porch is a relatively small addition to your home but it will make a big impression and I provide a start-to-finish service guaranteed to achieve an impact effectively and efficiently: from your initial consultation and the detailing of the design, through foundation work, the laying up, cutting and raising of the frame and the fixing of the rough-sawn roof deck, roof covering and final finish, I will pay attention to the detail and give my personal commitment to your project. I offer a full project management & construction service- you will not need to:

Liaise with and manage a variety of tradesmen and specialists to organise work and timings.

Chase down a melange of quotations and availabilities.

Arrange a matrix of random payments, deliveries and meetings.

I will take care of absolutely everything for you.

Local Framing Service

My comprehensive start-to-finish project management and framing service: beginning with a conversation about your ideas, then design & planning, foundations & site preparation, frame-cutting, frame raising, roof covering and finishing detail. I will take care of absolutely everything for you and, apart from leaving you with a beautiful structure, it will be as if I was never there.

Remote Framing Service

If your project is in another area (or even in another country!) I can still cut your timber frame from dimensional drawings. The finished frame will have a test-fit in the workshop before being dismantled, packed and delivered to you complete with carpenter’s fixings and full raising instructions for your on-site team. Transport can be organised from either end.

Please scroll down to discover some other stuff I should be able to help you with… timber framing is a versatile method of construction and i build a diverse range of timber structures.

Garden Buildings

I combine traditionally-cut joinery with simplified “balloon” or “stick-built” framing- I call this “hybrid” framing and use it extensively for craft workshops, music rooms, reading rooms, studies and libraries, fully-equipped gyms, glamping-pods, shepherd’s huts, garden pergolas, carports, garages and summer kitchens.

Roof Framing & roof covering

Roof frames in massive timbers or standard stock: pent roofs, couple roofs, couple-close roofs, collar-tie roofs, collar-and-tie roofs, mansard roofs and traditional trussed roofs including open-timbered, collar-beam and hammer-beam. Contact me if you have a challenging roof-framing project. Please note: I only hang roof coverings, usually slate, on roof frames that I have built, renovated or upgraded.

Smaller Items

A good selection of oak inglenook-fireplace beams- either crude or finished & prepped for invisible fixing.

House-name and number signage- any lettering and number combination onto oak, larch, chestnut and other interesting woods.

Bookshelves in different styles including the supply of old, decorative books by the linear metre.

Picture and mirror framing in heavy timber.

Indoor and outdoor furniture in my raw style.

Iron, Glass, Concrete & stone

Timber frame structures look perfect in harmony with other materials which share a strong aesthetic. I have combined oak, larch, Douglas fir and sweet chestnut with iron, glass and concrete on many occasions with stunning results. Staircases and balustrades, balconies and roof trusses are typical projects where these diverse but complementary materials come together. The look can be classic, modern or a mix.

Whether it’s brackets, braces, balustrades or bases- I have many years of experience designing and working with all of these complementary materials.

Staircase Design & Build

Raw, punchy staircases fabricated using any of my regular timber species. Perfect for contrast in contemporary settings as well as for barn conversions and exterior applications.

Schedule Your Consultation

Many projects require a combination of these services to achieve the desired outcome. The core skills are always the same: work experience, good carpentry knowledge and application, a good knowledge of complementary trades, good communication- and attention to detail. I am always available to discuss your project from-the-bottom-up without obligation: if we work together that’s great- if not, that’s fine too.
